COLUMBIA CI|TY- Last month ushered in the start of 2019 Art in the Alley series. During the event four local artists - Michael and Jennifer Lude, Sara Gayle and Doug Egolf too part in a Paint Around.
The Paint Around was an exciting opportunity for each artist to collaborate with each other. Each artist started at a blank canvas and were given the theme of Columbia City and asked to start a piece centered around that theme. After several minutes each artists rotated to a different piece and by the end of the event each artist contributed their style to each piece.
This was the second year for this event, which is growing in popularity. Artists in last year's Paint Around were C. Trier, Renee Erickson, Michael Lude and Doug Egolf. Now local artists are using these unique pieces as a way to help raise money for the community and supply local art to the public.
"Art in the Alley and the Downtown Business Alliance is raising money for supporting Art in the Alley, local artists bringing more murals to downtown Columbia City," read recent release. "All money will go towards Columbia City and the city we love. We want to go above and beyond other cities and show our love for community, arts and local businesses."
Throughout the summer these pieces will be part of a rotating display and be featured at various sites throughout the community and will be auctioned off at a later date.
At each location there will be an auction box where those interested can place a silent bid on their favorite piece. Just fill out the information and drop it in the box.
These Pictures will also be featured at all First Friday and Art in the Alley events. At the end of the summer there will be an Art Walk and Mural Walk where the results of the auction will be revealed.
Note that the highest auction bid and highest donation over $225 will receive a full scale family pencil-portrait (18 by 24 inches) framed and matted by Michael Lude. The remaining purchase bids will receive a gift certificate $80 in value for their own caricature, portrait or towards any other art services provided by MJL Entwined Art & Innovative Services.
The art will be displayed at Peabody Public Library until July 5. It will be featured at City Hall from July 7 until July 13. It will be displayed at Star Bank in downtown Columbia City from July 14 until July 20. Other locations include Orizon Bank, Whitley County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center and Ball Furniture.
